BBM Voice comes to all BlackBerry devices, brings free voice calling over Wi-Fi

BlackBerry is trying to woo its existing users to stay on with the struggling brand. While BlackBerry 10 is the current operating system, the company has now announced that it will be rolling out Voice on BBM forits older OS-running devices as well.
The BBM Voice feature allows users to make free calls to other BBM contacts over Wi-Fi, which is quite a nifty feature for the budget-friendly person. Looking to re-engage the audience using older versions of its operating system, BlackBerry has announced that the update to its current BlackBerry Messenger app, BBM 7, which adds BBM Voice, will also be available for users of BlackBerry devices running OS 5.0, OS 6.0 and OS 7.0. BlackBerry had first launched BBM Voice for OS 6.0 and later devices in December of 2012, while promising that the update will be rolled out for BlackBerry OS 5 users in early 2013,
according to NDTVGadgets.
While older versions of BBM only seem to getting this much, the company is planning to rollout a few other features for BBM 7. The update will include BBM 7 getting multi-tasking capabilities with a split-screen mode. This new feature will allow users to check their BBM text chats, emails and even manoeuvre through other apps while taking a call. Another feature being added to the new BBM 7 will now allow users to check when a contact is available for a voice chat. Another add-on to the new BBM 7 is BlackBerry ID Integration, an optional feature that aims at simplifying OS and device upgrades.
BBM Voice will require a BlackBerry ID, though, and can be set up when the app gets upgraded. And users who are thinkingof upgrading to BlackBerry 10 need not be worried. The company has ensured that data will be carried over whena user moves up to the latest BlackBerry smartphone. Users who want to gettheir hands on theupdated version of BBM 7 can go on
BlackBerry World to download theupgrade onto their BlackBerry. Overall, theupdate is BlackBerry’s way of ensuring that its existing budget device users continue to stick with the brand.
