Motorola launches Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini for Verizon

While we’re waiting with bated breath for the Moto X which is set to be unveiled on August 1, Motorola has launched three smartphones in its partnership with Verizon. The smartphones seem to be successor to last year’s smartphones called Razr Maxx, Razr HD and Razr M. They carry Droid branding sans Razr name and hence are dubbed as Droid Maxx, DroidUltra and Droid Mini.
More than the hardware, the devices have tons of innovative software features. Though, one differentiating hardware component in the devices is Motorola’s own 8-core chip called as X8 Mobile Computing System designed with Qualcomm. The cores actually splits the tasks on the smartphone and thus conserves battery life without impacting performance. Motorola claims that this will help in increasing CPU performance by 24% and graphics performance by 100%. The 8 cores are divided as: dual-core for application processing, quad-core for rendering graphics, single-core for contextual computing and single-core for natural language processing. The dual-core processor for processing applications is Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro clocked at 1.7 GHz. For graphic processing, it has Adreno 320 GPU.
